What is a Design Mindset?

A Design Mindset is a set of predispositions to specific ways of thinking and acting typical for designers, which enables creative problem-solving and the creation of innovative solutions. According to research conducted by the Institute for the Future, a Design Mindset is a key element of the work of the future. A Design Mindset can be developed. Knowledge about its components allows one to focus on specific situations and make changes in daily work. Developing these predispositions is also possible through participation in recommended training and workshops.

What is Design Thinking?

Design Thinking is a creative approach to problem-solving that focuses on understanding users’ needs and developing solutions tailored to those needs. This process combines empathy, experimentation, and iteration to create innovative products and services.

For which professions is the Design Mindset Detector™ intended?

The most common professions using our tool include Service Designer, UX Designer, CX Specialist, and Graphic Designer. However, this is not an exhaustive list. The areas and predispositions verified by the questionnaire are universal and useful in many industries and organizations. A Design Mindset enables effective problem-solving both in professional and everyday life.

What is Service Design?

Service Design is the process of designing and organizing services to meet users’ expectations and needs. It focuses on delivering value to customers by improving interactions, communication, and the overall experience associated with using services.

When should you choose just the predisposition test, and when the test + mentoring session?

The questionnaire is a comprehensive and standalone tool for examining predispositions. The report you receive after completing it contains information about the current level of development of your predispositions as well as tips for improvement. However, from our clients’ experiences, supplementing this information with a mentoring session with an experienced expert provides broader context and makes it easier to plan the next steps on your development path.

How does the Design Mindset Detector™ differ from the Gallup test?

The CliftonStrengths tool (known in Poland as the Gallup test) aims to identify natural talents. The test is general and not targeted. The Design Mindset Detector™ is the first tool to examine specific, selected predispositions in the context of Design Thinking. It is therefore aimed at identifying ways of thinking and acting useful in the broad field of design.

I am not (yet) a designer. Is the test for me?

The Design Mindset Detector™ is very useful if you intend to change industries or are taking your first steps in a design career, whether in product design, service design, or working in UX Design and Customer Experience. The test report will help you identify your strengths and areas for development. It is invaluable support in choosing a new job and planning your career path.

Can test results be inflated?

The test is based on self-assessment in the examined areas. You may overly optimistically or pessimistically assess your predispositions. Various factors unrelated to the test, such as recent life/work events, current mood, and overall self-esteem, can influence your responses. The test includes a mechanism that verifies the results of individuals with a high tendency for positive self-presentation through the “Distorted Answer Scale”.

Why do many test questions repeat?

The questions may seem similar but are not identical. Similar questions serve to check the consistency of responses.

How long are the test results valid?

The test results represent how you assess yourself at the time of completing the questionnaire. Various factors influence how you use your predispositions, such as your personal preferences (some predispositions may be more or less natural to you) and your professional environment (your company/organization may support or not support certain ways of thinking and acting). Retaking the test can help you assess changes in your situation.

Can I retake the test?

Yes. You can develop your Design Mindset. The recommendations in the report will help you.

In what situation and after how much time is it worth retaking the test?

It is best to wait about a year if you are developing in the context of design or changing jobs. It is worth retaking the test after about 12 months of development or about 6 months after changing jobs.
